Caucasus Literacy Project
Region: Eurasia
Competency: Educational Development
Transforming lives through literacy and development
Situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, the Caucasus region boasts an incredibly rich culture and history. There are more than 50 people groups here, some of whose languages are among the most ancient in the world and entirely unique to the area. These overlooked communities have tenaciously held onto their languages and traditions. Unfortunately, globalization, isolation, and lack of access to mother-tongue educational resources impede their engagement with the rest of the modern world. We as an organization are driven by the belief that all people, regardless of language and culture, should have access to opportunities that promote human flourishing.
The Caucasus project seeks to preserve these unique cultures through research and publication and to see lives transformed in these marginalized language communities through literacy and development. In order to accomplish this, we commit to living among and engaging with under-resourced language communities in order to build trust and foster relationships. This allows us to build true local partnerships and identify resources to develop community-sustained programs.
