Southeast Asia Language Technology Center
Region: Southeast Asia
Competency: Human Language Technology
Resourcing under-resourced language communities in this digital age.
Southeast Asia is a region characterized by complex multilingualism and rapid digitization. The Southeast Asia Language Technology Center aims to connect marginalized language communities to researchers and universities that are developing Human Language Technology for these smaller language groups. By giving these languages access to resources that are usually only available to languages with larger populations of speakers, these smaller language communities are given building blocks for community-level transformation and sustainable change in this digital age. Dignity, hope, connection, and voice are all positively impacted when an under-resourced language group is given greater access to modern technological capabilities.
