International Literacy and Development (ILAD) partners with marginalized communities to build economic and educational solutions in the language they know best to solve the problems they have identified.
International Literacy and Development (ILAD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2011 and based in Duncanville, Texas.
ILAD promotes human flourishing through educational, economic and social development in communities that are under-resourced. We do this by partnering with communities to facilitate local solutions to local problems through our four core competencies; Agricultural Development, Educational Development, Business Development, and Human Language Technology.
FOUR CORE
Individuals learn the nuts and bolts of how to start and manage ethical businesses that provide for their families and their communities.
Innovations in HLT offer under resourced language speakers an on ramp to the digital economy. HLT optimizes how computers interact with human language and facilitates translation between languages.
We aim to strengthen under-resourced language communities by partnering with them to create native language resources for education with a focus on literacy skills through oral, visual, written and digital forms.
Through agricultural training, subsistence farmers are able to implement new strategies based on best practices for growing crops in their location. This improves their production and strengthens the health of the entire community.
Since 2011, ILAD has worked in 12 countries on 18 projects, reaching thousands of lives.
ILAD’s work is supported through partnerships with the Library of Congress, Sesame Workshop, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Truist, the Harold Simmons Foundation, the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation, the Roddy Scott Foundation, Circle of Sisterhood, Books Unbound, Afrik Excel, Lifted Up International, Revive Justice, Vickery Trading Company, Woolaroo, and others.
